There is, of course, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park ... but that is just one.

The 2185.9 mile Appalachian National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine runs through Harpers Ferry and the ATC headquarters is located here.

The 184.5 mile Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal National Historical Park from Georgetown, DC to Cumberland, MD runs along the Potomac River. The easy grade along the Towpath Trail makes for easy (and fun) hiking and biking.

The 180 mile Journey Through Hallowed Ground National Heritage Area from the Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, PA to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello in Charlottesville, VA runs through four states (PA, MD, WV, VA) including through Harpers Ferry. This is an unparalleled Heritage Area in the nation with 100's Civil War Battlefields, 1,000's of Historical Sites, 18 National and State Parks, 60 Historic Towns and Villages, 9 Presidential Homes and Sites, and breathtaking vistas all along the way.

The first stop on the 3,700 mile Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail is in Harpers Ferry where Meriwether Lewis obtained suppplies for the 16 month Corps of Discover Expedition to the unexplored West.

The 500 mile Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail from the Allegheny Highlands in Pennsylvania to the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland comes through Harpers Ferry, and its headquarters is located here. This is a networks of paths explored by George Washington which you yourself can also explore on foot, bicycle, horse, and boat.

The 136 mile Washington Heritage Trail National Scenice Byway runs through West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle with 50 heritage sites and 5 towns including Harpers Ferry. It traces the footsteps of George Washington and his family who were large landowners here with many homes and plantations.

The Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area which is in Maryland - but that includes Maryland Heights which is part of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. It is a very rich heritage area and includes Civil War battlefields at Antietam, Monocacy, South Mountain, and Harpers Ferry, plus 100's of other heritage sites.

... And if Harpers Ferry does not have enough to offer you, one can venture a little further and explore Antietam National Battlefield, Gettysburg National Military Park, Manassas National Battlefield Park, and Monocacy National Battlefield - all within a 30-60 minute drive.

First Zion Baptist Church Restoration Project

The Foundation plans to purchase and preserve the Zion Baptist Church on W. Ridge Street in Harpers Ferry for future use as cultural center for Harpers Ferry and Bolivar. The site will also serve a significant role in interpreting history.
