Visit Harpers Ferry - Bolivar Smartphone App

HARPERS FERRY, West Virginia – June 6, 2013 – The Harpers Ferry Historic Town Foundation has released a smartphone app "Visit Harpers Ferry and Bolivar” for Apple iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad) and Google Android devices. It is available for FREE on the iTunes and Google stores.

“We are pleased to offer this new technology to our visitors,” said Joe Anderson, Mayor of Harpers Ferry, “which will allow them to have constantly updated information about accommodations, restaurants, shopping, recreational and entertainment opportunities, historical and cultural sites, and events.“

“Visit Harpers Ferry and Bolivar" was developed by the Harpers Ferry Historic Town Foundation and Discover Anywhere Mobile with financial support from the Town of Harpers Ferry, the Town of Bolivar, and the West Virginia Development Office.

The app contains about 70 places to "Stay Play Eat and Shop!" in the Harpers Ferry and Bolivar area, plus roughly 50 service-oriented listings such as banking, houses of worship, public-community facilities, transportation services, and visitor information.

"Visit Harpers Ferry and Bolivar” also contains about 140 Heritage and Cultural points of interest (POIs) in Harpers Ferry, Bolivar, and the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. The POIs are organized by themes, including Natural Heritage (rivers, trails), Transportation (bridges, railroads), Industry (waterpower, mills), 19th Century Armory Town, 20th Century Historic Town, Civil War, and John Brown.

The app contains several "Self-Guided Tours" organized by theme, including Black Heritage sites in Harpers Ferry, Hiking Trails, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Virginius Island, and the Storer College Campus. It also has a walking tour of historic houses and other buildings in the Town of Harpers Ferry – which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

"Visit Harpers Ferry and Bolivar" also has a list of regularly updated, upcoming Heritage and Cultural events in Harpers Ferry and Bolivar, in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and in Jefferson County, as well as some regional events in neighboring heritage areas.

The Harpers Ferry Historic Town Foundation is a small, all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to “Preserve, Protect, Promote, and Educate” the small historic towns of Harpers Ferry and Bolivar, the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and adjacent heritage areas.
